Deep within the mesmerizing rolling meadows, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His existence was pure, simple, and honest. His main role was mainly to look after his herd of sheep.

Their soft bleating read more and the rustling of the gales through the solo tree on the peak were his main associates. Day upon day, watching over his wards inculcated in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. In one such instance because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome plot.

Narratives of predators prowling on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.

One afternoon he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but saw no beast.

The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This trick continued for a couple of more days. But, one noon, a real wolf did attack the herd. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the results of dishonesty.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once violated, is tough to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
